I did it! I did it! I ran 30kms this morning, without walking!! Yippeee! I am so proud of myself and I can't tell you how much it is helping my confidence. Completing the marathon now seems that little bit more of a reality. I also can't believe how GOOD I feel now, about three hours after finishing. Okay, so I ache a bit but I don't feel anywhere near as shagged as I did after last week's 28.5km run. However, last week was a) hilly and b) humid so I guess that can make all the difference. Here are some crazy snaps I took with my phone AS I was running, hence the blurriness… Derrr.
Starting off, with dawn breaking over the Brisbane River. We were heading from Milton towards Brett's Wharf, a distance of 15kms.
Oxygen-deprived at one of many drink fountains along the way, getting our gels down the hatch.
Running alongside the Brisbane River. It was such a pretty, pretty run that it makes it all so much easier and more worth it, to be outdoors enjoying it all.
Heading home, with only about 10kms to go!
At the first water stop, all smiles and nervous energy
Self-portrait of the artist at work. Sweaty, smelly, tired…
It is SO GREAT to run with a bunch of people to keep you company. I think we are all developing quite a close bond and looking out for eachother. We all have the same goal in mind and it is so much more enjoyable to have a group of like-minded people with whom to run. Today's major discussion topic? Ice cream. Food does seem to a major topic actually. As we ran through New Farm, it was all about the smell of bacon. Ohhhh, how cruel! We eyed off a cafe and wondered if we could duck in there, sit leisurely for an hour or so and join the crew on their way back… but I guess that sort of thinking is never going to help us cross the finish line at the Gold Coast so it was back to reality pretty quick - and back to pavement pounding.
